Wow. Where do we start today? The Swiss Magician, Roger Federer thoroughly ravaged Andy Murray to make what should have been a great duel, into a one-sided dumping of the other.
Excluding moment in the 3rd set tie-breaker, Murray was realistically never really in this thing. Roger was serving too well, hitting crisp groundies, and making few errors when it counted the most. Andy didn't play bad tennis here, he just couldn't bring any magic at critical points. Federer was simply too good. It's Roger's 16th slam and suddenly we can talk about Federer going for more, perhaps even doing what only Laver and Budge have been able to accomplish is their legendary careers, win all 4 slams in a calendar year.
So is it really possible in 2010? I never thought I'd say this, but this may actually be his best shot ever! With Nadal's knee issues, Federer's new-found ultra confidence, and a top-10 that may suddenly be feeling the pressure again, I genuinly like Roger's chances in 2010. His semi-final and final showing at the Australian Open was stellar tennis, scary tennis, vintage Roger.
If he can somehow manage to keep this up at the French, Wimby, and U.S. Open, it's a tall order for anyone to show this master up. Right now, this very moment, Roger simply has no peer. He is the greatest of all time, and the best player in the world at this moment.
The French Open is the wild-card of the remaining 3 slams. There are far too many questions with respects to the greatest clay-court player of all time (Rafa), but this has got to make the defending champions chest puff out that much more. Roger is the defending champion, and I suspect the Australian Open will make him feel like the man to truly beat, not Nadal. Some players like being the underdog, but Roger is most lethal when he is the king, the front-runner, and the man to beat.
This season could go down in history folks, and if so, perhaps Federer can finally take the title of Worlds Greatest Athlete too.
